About this event

In the most serious criminal cases—where life sentences, wrongful convictions, or acquittals may hinge on video clips, audio recordings, or photographs—the consequences of untrustworthy digital evidence can be catastrophic. Synthetic media and image manipulation are challenging the believability and admissibility of evidence in court. When the stakes are highest, can digital evidence still support the standard of proof?

What safeguards are needed to ensure that justice isn’t derailed by AI-generated deepfakes or image manipulation? How can courts, law enforcement, and attorneys verify the authenticity of digital evidence? What role can content provenance play in reinforcing trust?

Join Jen Tse, Community Manager at the CAI; Jan Norman, Assistant District Attorney at the Office of the District Attorney Nashville; Brandon Epstein, Technical Forensic Specialist at Magnet Forensics and Chair of the Scientific Working Group on Digital Evidence; and Geoff Lambright, Co-Founder of Forensic Photonics; for a conversation exploring how we can protect trust in digital evidence and create resilient infrastructures for criminal proceedings that can keep pace with technological advancements.
